2013 Design Competition

2013 Summer Banner Artist - Beverly artist John Hall’s striking banner was chosen for our 2013 summer banner. John Hall is a resident of the Montserrat section of Beverly, and the owner of a graphic design business on Rantoul St. His business, the John Hall Design Group (www.johnhalldesign.com) specializes in customized print publications such as newsletters, magazines, books, catalogs, and annual reports for corporate and institutional clients such as The MacDowell Colony, The Urban Land Institute, Babson College and InvestorPlace Media.

Mr. Hall is very involved in the community and says he’s “pretty much the official designer of the Hannah School,” where his children attend. He designed the school’s logo and website, and dozens of posters and flyers for school events. He also developed the panther seal that adorns the lobby floor of Beverly High School.

When asked about the inspiration for his design, Mr. Hall said, “Much of my business this time of year involves more technical projects such as financial and law school books—pretty dry stuff. This was a good opportunity to switch gears and do a more colorful, creative, freeform piece. The design is meant to symbolize the colorful, vibrant and artistic city that I envision for downtown Beverly. I hope the banners will add a splash of color and energy, and that their message encourages residents from across the city to come downtown and support local businesses.”

2013 Winter Banner Artist - Will be announced in the fall

Previous Winners

2012 Winter Banner Artist - Beverly artist Amanda Beard’s design was chosen for the winter banner. The banner reads “It’s All Happening Downtown.” With the new businesses, restaurants and improvements, it is all happening downtown. Ms. Beard is a recent graduate of Rhode Island School of Design. She is currently the Staff Assistant for the School of Visual and Performing Arts at Endicott College, and is thrilled to return to her hometown of Beverly to become more involved with the local arts community.

2012 Summer Banner Artist - After much deliberation, Steve DeGrappo's design was chosen for our 2012 summer banner. For his design he chose St. Mary's Church, First Parish Unitarian Church and the First Baptist Church for their architectural elements and incorporated daisies to represent the Garden City. When Steve found out about the contest he was excited, having just started his own photography and graphic design business, Middlebury Graphics
