Q. What is Downtown 2020?
A. It’s a planned approach to revitalize downtown Beverly with:
- New retail stores, galleries and markets
- Entrepreneurial, independent businesses
- Gathering places and spaces
- Live / work spaces and housing
- Waterfront and gateway upgrades
Q. Who came up with the vision and the plan?
A. We asked almost 1,000 people - residents, business owners, college students, city staff, property owners, downtown employees - and then we worked with consultant Kennedy Smith to build the vision and an action plan to get there.
Q. What are some of the things you’re working on? 
A. It’s early, but with our amazing partners, we’re accomplishing a lot!
- Like the new parking lots? We did it!
- Like the new façades on A New Leaf and Chianti? We did it!
- Like the new guide to help businesses get started in Beverly? We did it!
- Like the new zoning changes to bring more housing downtown? We did it!
And we’re working on…
- New signage to direct visitors to downtown
- Clean up, repair and maintenance improvements downtown
- Recruiting new businesses to downtown and supporting current businesses
- Creating a new arts and cultural district downtown
- Downtown beautification efforts (flowers, mulch, and tree lighting)
